Somali Honey Tasting & Awareness Event – March 15, 2024
On March 15, 2024, the Somali Beekeepers Association organized a special Honey Tasting and Awareness Event in Garowe, bringing together community members, farmers, youth groups, and local leaders.
The goal of the event was to:
- Showcase the purity and quality of Somali honey
- Raise awareness about the importance of bee conservation
- Promote local honey producers to the public and businesses
Visitors had the chance to taste honey harvested from different regions of Somalia — including Bari, Nugal, and Mudug. Each sample had its unique flavor, color, and aroma based on the flowers and trees around the hives.
The event also featured short talks on:
- The benefits of local honey for health
- How beekeeping helps the environment
- Opportunities for youth and women in beekeeping
“Somali honey is not only delicious — it’s a source of livelihood and pride,” said one of the lead organizers.
The Somali Beekeepers Association is committed to promoting natural honey, training new beekeepers, and protecting our bees for future generations.
